How to Find Products with Mangosteen

How to Find Products with Mangosteen

Mangosteen has long been known as the Queen of Fruits for its delicious taste and nutritious properties. A Southeast Asian fruit, it has only recently captured the imagination of the West. Now, mangosteen products are becoming readily available at specialty stores. Read on to learn more.

1

Decide what kind of mangosteen product you want. Supplements, juice and the actual fruit can be found for sale, though the fruit is difficult to find in the United States.

2

Shop at a natural foods store, where you will find both juice and supplements. The juice is sometimes sold with other bottled beverages, though it's sometimes in the supplement aisle since it's usually purchased for its health properties. You may have to ask staff which supplements contain mangosteen because they probably won't be in their own category.

3

Look for mangosteen products at a store specializing in vitamins and supplements. As you examine labels, look for supplements featuring the whole fruit. Some products will just contain juice, but the whole fruit is more beneficial.

4

Locate an independent distributor. Some mangosteen products, such as XanGo, are only sold through independent distributors. If you don't see any local advertising from an independent distributor, visit a product website such as XanGo. It will give you information about how to locate a local distributor of the product.

5

Visit Hawaii if you want to purchase the fresh mangosteen fruit in the United States.

Tips & Warnings

Though the fruit will hopefully be available at upscale grocers across the country in the near future, Onomea Orchards in Hawaii is currently one of the only growers. You can contact them at 808-896-2781.

Though mangosteen is a nutritious fruit, it does not live up to the extravagant health claims often made about it. Don't expect a miracle from this fruit.

How to Find Green Flooring

How to Find Green Flooring

Chemicals that give carpets that "new" smell can make you sick and wreak havoc on the environment. There are flooring alternatives available, "green choices" that will add
beauty
to your surroundings while protecting you and the environment.

1

Consider "green" flooring including sealed concrete, glazed tile or certified wood for "hard" floors. Or you may prefer soft flooring, such as bamboo, cork or recycled content carpet.

2

Make sure your choice of flooring is as green as it could be. The website Builditgreen.org offers a fact sheet about various green choices. Things to consider before purchase include the energy impact at its point of use; whether the flooring is made from a renewable resource; and whether it contains low volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Also consider durability and price. After finding two or three options, move on to Step 3.

3

Find contact information for the flooring manufacturers you've chosen and request information about the chemicals they use and the environmental impact of their processes. Sometimes a company may claim to be green, but their production methods contradict the intent.

4

Talk with retailers who sell the flooring you've chosen and ask if they install flooring with environmental-friendly method. Ask if they use low VOC adhesives. Water-based adhesives emit less VOC's than solvent based adhesives, which contains gasses like formaldehyde.

5

Maintain your new green flooring with green cleaners that don't contain carcinogens, toxins and heavy metal pollutants, such as nickel, cadium, cobalt, mercury and zinc.

How to Find Acupuncture Points

How to Find Acupuncture Points

Over 3000 years ago the Chinese discovered that the body has an amazing ability to heal itself. Eastern medicine claims that our bodies are made up of energy, and acupuncture points are the conduit to that energy and restoring harmony to the mind and body. Acupuncture is when a trained professional inserts very fine, sterilized needles into certain points of your body to help your body mend itself. Read on to learn more.

1

Know the fourteen different meridians that your body is divided into. Qi (pronounced chi) carries energy through these regions. When the body is sick, it is believed that the qi is blocked, requiring the use of acupuncture points to help the energy flow again.

2

Trace the kidney meridian pathway though the body. It begins at the middle of your lower neck, runs midsection down the inside of the left leg, and ends on the bottom of the sole of the left foot. Major acupuncture points include just below the breast, at the navel, inside of the knee, along the ankle and at the ball of the foot.

3

Find different acupuncture points for the stomach including four on the head. One is on the left collarbone, the left breast, to the left of the navel and the front of your left hip. Two are on the middle of your topside of the lower leg and two are on the top of your feet, one just above the first knuckle of the second toe and the other directly on the second toe.

4

Use your hand to find potential areas and points throughout the body for acupuncture work. The fingers are like a horse, where the middle finger links to the head, neck and spine, the second and fourth fingers are the arms including hands, wrists and shoulders. The thumb and little finger are legs including hips and ankles.

Tips & Warnings

Try looking at your tongue to see if you have any unusual spots or changes in color. 23 different areas on the tongue correspond to different organs. Report any differences, discolorations or tender spots to a trained acupuncturist for a complete diagnosis.

Acupuncture should only be done by a trained professional. Before choosing an acupuncturist, careful research must be done to ensure that they are knowledgeable and like all medical facilities, are clean and used sterilized equipment.

How to Face Hypnotherapy Fears

How to Face Hypnotherapy Fears

Hypnosis is a technique that uses relaxation and suggestion to bypass the critical thinking of the mind. It can be used powerfully to help people quit smoking, lose weight and limit pain. Hypnophobia is the diagnosed fear of being hypnotized. However, it is easy to overcome by facing the fear.

1

Educate yourself on the scientific research concerning hypnotherapy to face your fear. Studies show that hypnotherapy can have amazing effects. You are in control, not the hypnotherapist. Research shows that therapists cannot control your mind or manipulate your thoughts, some people are just more easily hypnotized than others.

2

Learn what might have caused this phobia. Often, there are emotional traumas associated with a phobia. So be aware of anything that caused the fear of hypnotherapy.

3

Find a qualified practitioner. Because hypnotherapy is just that, a therapy, not a drug; it is not FDA approved and therefore no licensing is required. Search by word of mouth or online for someone you trust.

4

Set an appointment with a hypnotherapist and stick to it. If you are not comfortable, they will not hypnotize you. However, it is a critical step to moving forward and building trust with the practitioners.

5

Understand that it might take awhile to get over the phobia. Although some practitioners have reported results in as little as three hours, it usually takes three to five sessions to overcome the fear. It might take longer depending on the caliber of your phobia.

Tips & Warnings

Some practitioners offer services over the phone. If your fear is excessive, this might be a good way to start.

How to Make An Affordable Antique Ring

How to Make An Affordable Antique Ring

Most antique rings would be large and have a high metal weight. You can also expect an antique gem stone ring to have expensive gems in large sizes. In this article we will explain how you could get an antique ring design without paying an extravagant price for it.

Things You'll Need:

Information from this article and a keen desire to own a classic antique ring.

Step
1

Understand The Design: It would be good to study the history of the antique ring. This allows you to understand and appreciate the various features of the antique ring. If the design of an antique ring is very large, the gold weight and gemstone sizes would probably drive the price of the antique ring beyond your budget. Some antique rings might be so intricate that they could appear akward if worn for casual wear.

Step
2

Alternate Gems: Most antique rings would have gems like emeralds, diamonds, sapphires and rubies. The price of these gems is very high and large sizes can be priced beyond the budgets of most of us. If you love the design of an antique ring but find the gems to be too expensive, consider using alternate gems for your antique ring. Green tourmaline, peridot or chrome tourmaline can be used instead of emeralds. Rubies might be better replaced with red spinel, red garnets or red sunstone. For blue sapphires, iolite or even deep london blue topaz are interesting substitutes. Another way would be to reduce the overall dimensions of the antique ring design, while retaining proportions. This would reduce the gemstone size requirements and moderate the price tag to your advantage.

Step
3

Metal Choice: If you see a large imposing antique ring, the price of the ring in gold could be very high. In such a case consider ordering the same antique ring design in sterling silver. The choice of gold color for antique rings is based on personal preference. Depending on the
date
when the antique ring was first made, yellow gold might be more common as compared to white gold. You could ofcourse order a yellow gold antique ring design to be made in white gold if, white gold is your preference.

Step
4

Customization: This is one of the most important factors in making an antique ring affordable. A custom antique ring could be made according to your dimensions and size, this can be used to adjust the metal weight (thereby the metal cost) according to your price point. The choice of metal itself could be defined when you order a true custom made antique ring. A heavy antique ring would be more reasonable priced if made in sterling silver, even if the original ring was made in gold. The choice of gemstone and the gemstone size and shape can also be selected to suit your budget. It is also possible to increase the durability of your antique ring by choosing particular gems. For example, a chrome tourmaline antique ring would be much more durable as compared to the same ring made with an emerald.

Tips & Warnings

Certain antique rings have a deeper meaning that goes beyond their appearance. If this is the case, you need to understand the meaning of your antique ring. This will ensure that you do not lower or change the meaning of various features in your antique ring. For example, the 375 year old claddagh ring needs a crown, heart and hands to complete it's meaning. You could make this ring without a crown, but could not then refer to it as a claddagh ring.

How to Make a Miniskirt From a Pair of Pants

How to Make a Miniskirt From a Pair of Pants

This sewing project is a great way to repurpose a pair of jeans or tailored trousers. Use your own jeans or scour the thrift shops for trousers in great fabrics, like wool flannel, woven plaids and gabardine. While machine sewing makes this a quick project, hand stitching also works great.

Things You'll Need:

Pair of jeans or trousers

Sewing shears

Sewing machine

Matching thread

Ruler or straight edge

Tailor's chalk

Seam ripper

Straight pins

Step
1

Start with a pair of jeans or trousers that fit well around the waist with enough room for ease of movement through the hips. Fold the trousers in half along the fly front. Lay them on a flat surface and smooth out the fabric.

Step
2

Determine the finished length of the skirt. Mark the length with the tailor's chalk. Allow 1 inch for a hem, depending on the fabric.

Step
3

Use the straight edge and mark a cutting line across the pant leg from seam to seam below the crotch and the bottom of the pockets. Cut along the line to create a pair of shorts.

Step
4

Unfold the trousers. Use the seam ripper to undo the intersecting seams that form the crotch. Remove the stitches a few at a time. Resist the temptation to rip the seam apart, which may damage the fabric.

Step
5

Begin with the front of the skirt. Pin the left and right front center of the skirt (formerly the crotch), one side over the other.

Step
6

Top stitch around the edges of the left and right sides to secure them. Even the hem by trimming straight across the front.

Step
7

Repeat Steps 5 and 6 to finish the back side of the skirt. Press well. Turn under 1/4 inch of the hem and press, and then turn up a half inch and machine stitch into place.

Tips & Warnings

Some fabrics don't need hemming. The hem of a denim skirt can be left to fray.

If the front and back center pieces do not lap completely one over the other, use a bit of fabric from the cut off legs to span the gap. Pin the extra fabric to the underside of the front and back and stitch as described in Step 6.

How to Make a Jean Purse

How to Make a Jean Purse

Old jeans can be used for many craft projects and one of the most useful things that you can make is a jean purse. Take it to school or work and people will compliment your new purse and wonder where you bought it. They may be amazed to find out that you made it yourself or you could just keep the designer’s name a secret. You could even make a jean purse to give to a friend as a gift, if you would like. When you make a jean purse, follow the suggested steps below:

Things You'll Need:

Old pair of jeans

Needle and thread

Scissors

Step
1

Find an old pair of jeans and lay them out on a flat surface. While holding the waistband together evenly, smooth the rear area so that you will be able to cut just above the crotch seam. After you have cut straight across the jeans, turn them inside out and pin the bottom together with straight pins.

Step
2

Stitch the bottom together. Use a simple running stitch or backstitch to sew the bottom of the jean purse together. You can enforce and make the seam stronger by going back over the stitch that you just finished. Turn the purse back to the right side again.

Step
3

Measure for the flap. Use a tape measure or ruler to measure the width of the top of your jean purse. Rip the seams of one of the legs of the jeans and lay flat. Iron out any creases in the material and mark the top with the ruler to the same measurement that you had just took. Fold the material under about an inch on each side, pin and sew the length of the jean material.

Step
4

Pin the flap to the top of the jean purse. Sew this piece onto the back of the waistline making a flap for your purse. Lay that flap over the front of the purse and decide where you want it to rest. Cut excess material and make a hem at the bottom of the flap.

Step
5

Make the handle for your new jean purse. You will need to use the other pant leg and either make a straight strap or a braided one. For the braided version, cut the material into three strips equally and then braid together. With the straight handle, simply cut the length of jean material that you want, turn it inside out and sew it together. Stitch the handle onto each side of your new jean purse and you will be done.

Tips & Warnings

You can add your own style to your jean purse by adding rhinestones, sequins and other embelishments.
